Thailand's ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra, known for his influential political career, has recently submitted a request for a royal pardon. Serving an eight-year prison sentence, Thaksin returned from self-imposed exile last week, creating a stir in the political landscape

Thaksin's family submits pardon request for his conviction on abuse of power and conflicts of interest. 

The 74-year-old Thaksin declines to comment on the reports, maintaining secrecy surrounding the request.

Thaksin's return coincides with political ally Srettha Thavisin becoming the prime minister, raising speculation about a potential deal.

The royal pardon process involves submission through the corrections department, consideration by the prime minister, and final approval from King Maha Vajiralongkorn.
